Happy Friday & Half Term Team!

What a lovely week of creativity, curiosity and thoughtful learning we’ve had in Year 1! In English, we’ve been busy sharpening our writing skills by creating instructions on how to make soup for Grandma’s birds. The children loved thinking carefully about sequencing, bossy verbs and making sure their instructions were clear enough for someone else to follow. There were some wonderfully imaginative ideas along the way! In Maths, our focus has been on numbers to 20. We’ve been practising recognising, ordering and working confidently with numbers, building strong foundations through hands-on activities and lots of discussion. Our Science lessons have been full of excitement as we explored our five senses. The children took part in a range of investigations, including: Trying to complete puzzles without using their sight, using a feely bag to identify objects by touch alone, smelling different items and making careful guesses about what they might be. There were plenty of giggles, surprised faces and brilliant scientific thinking! In Art, we completed our final pieces, carefully cutting and layering tissue paper to create animal shapes. The children showed fantastic concentration and creativity, thoughtfully choosing colours and shapes to bring their artwork to life. We also spent time revisiting our Courageous Advocacy project, thinking about how important Antarctica is to our planet. The children shared some really thoughtful ideas about why it needs protecting and how we can help look after our world.
