Year 1 News 12.6.26

Happy Friday Team!

Firstly, we want to say a huge well done to all of the children for their amazing effort during the Phonics Screening Check. Everyone has worked incredibly hard, shown great determination and should be super proud of themselves. We certainly are! In English, we finished reading The Mixed Story. We loved watching all the colours mix together and seeing new colours appear! We have now started creating our own ideas for a story. Our stories are going to be all about shapes that argue and fall out with each other, we can’t wait to see how they solve their problems! In Maths, we have been learning all about doubling and halving. Mrs Crowther brought in a magical doubling machine that made the number of cubes double! We loved predicting what would happen and spotting the patterns. In RE, we looked at the Creation Story and talked about God’s wonderful creations. We thought carefully about the different things in the world around us. In History, we explored how Wybunbury has changed over time. We discovered that the tower used to be part of the local church and found out that it kept falling down! In Music, we have been practising our song ready for our class worship. We are excited to share our hard work! In Computing, we have been joining programming blocks together. We used start and end blocks and followed an algorithm to make our sprite move. In D&T, we have been learning about fruits and vegetables and how they grow. We discovered that fruits can grow on trees or vines, while vegetables can grow underground or above the ground. In HeartSmart, we took part in a very exciting Mission Impossible challenge and worked together as a team. In PE, we have been practising our throwing and catching skills. In Dragon’s Lair, we had to retrieve the eggs and throw them safely back to our team. We also played throw tennis, where we tried to catch each other out using our brilliant throwing skills!
