Happy Friday Team! What a busy and exciting week we have had in Year 1!
In English, I have been teaching the children all about recounts. We started by reading a recount about a birthday party before thinking back to our own Mixed Party. The children enjoyed recalling everything we did and have begun writing their own recounts, using time adverbs such as First, Next, Then and Finally to put events in the correct order. In Maths, we have been revising our number bonds and exploring what the different mathematical symbols mean. We have been identifying the addition (+), subtraction (−) and equals (=) symbols and using them to solve and create number sentences. In RE, we learnt about Hindu beliefs about how God made the world. We discussed the roles of the three main deities: Brahma, the creator; Vishnu, who preserves the world and all living things; and Shiva, who, as part of the cycle of birth, life and death, will one day destroy the universe. During HeartSmart, we thought about our hopes and dreams for the future. The children enjoyed sharing what they would like to be when they grow up and discussing the kind of lives they hope to have. In Science, we continued our learning about plants by comparing different types and sorting them into groups. We identified garden and wild plants, fruit and vegetable plants, and learnt the difference between evergreen and deciduous trees. In Computing, we used the space backgrounds we had designed to create our own animations in ScratchJr. We created rockets, planned our algorithms and then programmed them to bring our animations to life. In Design and Technology, we explored different smoothie packaging before designing our own eye-catching packaging for the smoothies we had made. Our PE lesson was a special treat this week as I treated the children to a game of rounders. With the warm weather, we made sure to stay in the shade as much as possible and took lots of hydration breaks to keep everyone safe. It has also been RHE Week, giving the children the opportunity to think about their bodies, their families and the important relationships in their lives through a range of thoughtful activities and discussions.
I hope you all have a lovely weekend. Stay cool, enjoy the sunshine safely, and I look forward to welcoming everyone back for our final week together in Year 1!
