Year 1 News – 06.11.26

What an amazing first week back we have had in Year 1! The children have returned full of enthusiasm and curiosity, and we have loved seeing them throw themselves into all of our exciting learning activities.

We have kicked off our new topic with a little mystery! The children were very excited to receive a mysterious parcel in the post from the curator of a toy museum, asking for our help to locate some missing toys. This sparked lots of brilliant discussions as the children made predictions about which toys might have gone missing and shared their ideas about how we could help. We put our thinking into writing, suggesting different ways to help the curator solve the mystery. We can't wait to see where this adventure takes us!

In Maths, we have been consolidating our number bonds to 6–10, working hard to recall these facts off by heart. We have enjoyed lots of fun activities to help us practise, including making our very own bead bracelets! These acted as a fun, crafty version of a bead string, allowing us to move the beads to explore different ways of making a given number. The children loved creating something of their own while strengthening their number knowledge!

In RE, we have been learning about the Jewish festival of Sukkot. We explored what a sukkah is and why it is an important part of the celebration before designing and making our very own sukkahs. The children showed fantastic creativity with their designs!

In Science, we have been investigating the properties of different materials. We worked collaboratively in groups to hunt around the classroom for different objects, carefully observing their properties before sorting them into categories based on what they had in common. It was a wonderfully practical way to explore our learning, and the children thoroughly enjoyed being little scientists!

It has been such a fantastic week, full of curiosity, creativity, teamwork and lots of smiles. We are so proud of the enthusiasm the children have shown and can't wait to see what next week has in store for us!

Have a lovely weekend enjoying the Bonfire Night festivities! We hope you have lots of fun celebrating together and, of course, stay safe and take care around fireworks!

Mrs Roney.
