Y5 Weekly News 23.10.26
Happy Friday, Year 5!
What a fantastic way to finish our first half term together! We've had another busy week filled with wonderful learning, and you've certainly earned a well-deserved break.
Our wow moment this week has to be starting our poetry books in Art. You've been exploring a range of artistic techniques, including painting, printing and drawing, to create beautiful pages for your books. It has been lovely to see you experimenting with different materials, combining techniques and letting your creativity shine. They're already looking fantastic, and I can't wait to see how they develop!
In Maths, we began our new unit on addition and subtraction. We explored scaling, using our knowledge of number facts to help us solve calculations involving larger numbers. We also investigated inverse operations, discovering how addition and subtraction are linked and how we can use one operation to check the other. You've shown some excellent mathematical thinking this week!
In English, we finally put our planning into action and wrote our newspaper reports inspired by The Little Island. I've been so impressed with the quality of your writing! You worked hard to capture the formal, factual tone of a newspaper report while including catchy headlines, informative introductions, detailed recounts and quotes from witnesses. It has been wonderful to see you applying so many of the writing skills we've been practising. Well done, Year 5!
Alongside all of this, we've also enjoyed RE, PSHE, Science, PE, Spelling, Handwriting, Book Club, Worship and Music. We were also lucky enough to welcome PC Nick, who came in to teach us about bonfire and firework safety. We learnt some important ways to keep ourselves and others safe during the upcoming celebrations. A big thank you to PC Nick for sharing such valuable advice!
What a brilliant first half term we've had together! It has been such a pleasure teaching you all again, and I'm incredibly proud of the effort, enthusiasm and determination you've shown since September.
Have a wonderful half term, Year 5! Enjoy a well-deserved rest, have lots of fun and stay safe. I look forward to seeing you all after the holidays!
