Welcome to Year 4

A warm welcome to Year 4. I am thrilled to be a part of your new year and feel blessed to welcome you into my class. It is lovely to see you all and I hope you have had a fabulous summer.

We began our week by chatting about how we want our classroom to feel. We thought about a classroom that works well together and one that gets the most out of our learning. We recorded our ideas and we will revisit them next week. We then delved straight into our learning.

In Maths, we have begun investigating place value. We have counted in tens, hundreds and thousands using different representations and considered where numbers appear on our Place Value Charts. We have completed our First4Maths activities sharing our knowledge. TT Rock Stars and maths.co.uk will support our learning. Logins for these websites have now been stuck into diaries and I have set their first piece of homework to be completed by Friday 11th September.

In English this week, we have been introduced to a new storybook called Manfred the Baddie. We have written character descriptions to assist PC Nick in catching him, we have written letters to persuade Manfred to change his ways, and we have written a recipe for a sweet sandwich for his henchmen to make. We have thoroughly enjoyed reading the first part of our story and we will continue to work on this piece next week.

We have new reading books and a new diary ready to share with you at home. Please can you support your child in reading at home as this develops rich vocabulary and we are also trying hard to earn reading badges?

We have enjoyed different afternoon lessons this week. These have included Music, PE, French, Computing and Science.

I would just like to end my first website post by saying how proud I am of you all and how well you have settled into Year 4. You should be proud of yourselves. Have a great weekend.
