Welcome to Year 2!

Welcome back to school year 2! It has been wonderful to welcome you back into school and our new classroom. I have loved hearing about your summer holidays and getting stuck into our year 2 learning together. It has been a busy couple of days, and you have all amazed with me your fantastic engagement, knowledge and wonderful personalities. I am looking forward to seeing learning more together. 

Our writing has started with the arrival of a letter signed from a special friend. We were asked if we could follow rules. If we could agree that we were, we would be gifted something special. We wrote letters explaining that we were good at following the rules and the next day, we came into class to find a gift – a new book! We are exploring the book ‘Penguins in Peril’. So far, we have seen that a penguin came to school and left a mess and that the cats in the book needed our advice for a shopping list. We have enjoyed our writing tasks so far.

In Maths, we have revisited our year 1 place value learning and started our new year 2 learning. For this, we have been learning about multiples of 10 and developing our confidence finding numbers using a bead string. Today, we started to look at finding numbers on a 100 square. We played lots of games to gain confidence in our place value knowledge. 

Our PSHE focus was about thinking how we can protect our hearts and the hearts of others and in wellbeing, we thought about what we love. During our RE lesson, we started to think about our favourite books and what makes them special. We enjoyed a PE lesson outside getting to know some of our year one children by playing some exciting games. In computing, we learnt about information technology and thought about what we use technology for. In our art lessons, we heard about artists who had been inspired by nature and looked at how they use nature within their work. We then went outside to see what we could find to inspire our work. I have challenged the children to see what else they can find whilst out in nature! We also enjoyed our history lesson in which we thought about how transport had changed over time. We enjoyed looking at pictures of old transport and learning about how they have changed and when in history some of these things were first invented.
