Welcome to reception!

Wow reception, I have really enjoyed getting to know all of you this week in your first week at Wybunbury Delves. You have settled so well into the rhythms and routines of school. There has been so much to learn but you have done amazing. We have spent the week getting to know school, our new friends and even our Y6 buddies.

We have introduced our new theme which is ‘All about me’ using our story ‘Who are you?’. In our first literacy lesson we focused on ourselves and looked through the mirror. We thought about the colour of our hair and if it was curly or straight. We looked at the colour of our eyes and thought if they were small or big and sparkly or bright. We then used this to draw our very own self portrait and we even got to paint them. Our self portraits are now displayed in our classroom and you even wrote your name underneath it! In our second literacy lesson we looked at our families and the people we lived with. We used our photos that we brought in to share with everyone who is in our families. We thought about who we like to cuddle with before bedtime, who we like to watch films with or who we like to play games with in our families. You then used this to draw your families and once again you had a practice at writing your name.

In our communication and language we have been learning the poem called ‘Our class’. You have learnt the whole poem and you even added actions to it. We thought about how this links to our class and how we are all one big FAMILY.

In our maths learning we have focused on the maths rhyme ‘One man went to mow’. You have been practicing counting to 5.

Our highlight this week was meeting our Y6 buddies on the playground. We got some sports equipment out and played with our buddies. Some of you decided to draw with the chalk on the playground and some of you enjoyed playing with the huge parachute. You really enjoyed going under the parachute when your name was shouted out. Your Y6 buddies have done a fabulous job at looking after you on the playground at lunchtimes.

We have also been busy exploring our indoor and outdoor area. You have been playing with the cars, mud kitchen, water area, sand area and the craft area. The role play area and treehouse has been a huge hit and you have absolutely loved these areas.
