Reception’s weekly newsletter
Another great week has gone by in reception, we are all working incredibly hard.
In literacy this week, you were left a rolled up piece of paper by the kangaroo. We found out that the kangaroo had left us some instructions on how to make the glitter flower from the story. We spent all week focusing on what instructions were and what sort of words we find in instructions. You learnt that the bossy words like ‘chop’ ‘cut’ and ‘shake’ were all called imperative verbs. You then spent some of the week following the instructions and making the glitter flower. Later on in the week, we found some different instructions that were about making a sun from cutting out different shapes. This task didn’t just help us to follow instructions but it helped us to practice our cutting skills. Our understanding of instructions was fantastic, well done superstars!
In phonics, you have continued to learn your set 1 sounds. You learnt the sounds ‘e, l, h, r, j’. You also learnt how to form the letters correctly in our handwriting sessions.
In maths, you have been learning the language of ‘greater’ and ‘fewer’. Our rhyme that helped us to learn this was ‘down in the jungle’. We thought carefully about which animal washed the greatest or fewest amount of clothes. By the end of the week, we were challenging ourselves to find out how to make the groups equal.
In RE, we continued to look at how we are special and unique. We thought about how our names are our identity and that they are chosen before/after we are born. We learnt that all of our names have different meanings and we searched up what some of ours mean.
In our PSED, we spoke about the things that bug us and the emotion of ‘being annoyed’ that comes with this.
In our communication and language, we learnt the poem ‘amazing me’. We thought about what makes us amazing.
In our physical development session, we did our PE lesson outside. We read more of the story about Bertie the bunny. We learnt that Dexter the dog was upset because it was his job to save all of the carrots for the farmer. We played ‘follow the leader’ pretending that Dexter the dog was following us out of the farm. We then thought about how we are going to throw our bean bags ‘carrots’ from a distance to our hoops ‘burrows’. Your underarm throw is improving more and more each time we practice.
In our understanding the world, we learnt more about the season of Autumn. We thought about how animals and plant change because of the cooler weather. We then went back out to see any more changes on our school grounds. We made some Autumnal pictures using the items we had collected.
In our expressive arts and design, you had your music lesson with Mrs Pointon.
We enjoyed our buddy time this week playing on the adventure playground, fort Lewis, reading books or playing a group game.
As well as all of this you have been painting, making autumnal soups in the mud kitchen, using the water wall to push conkers down the tubes with the pressure of water, you have been digging in the sand area and much more!
What a fabulous week we have had, enjoy your weekend.
See you on Monday superstars,
Miss Haynes
