We have had another busy week in reception!
In our Literacy work this week we have been continuing to read our book about our bird. By the end of the week we finished the story and found out that our bird became free again when the grandad and boy took him to see his friends at the tree. We have been enjoying seeing all of the adventures of our class bird gets up to when we are not in school. He has enjoyed baths in the water tray, eating our bird seed and even visiting the Wybunbury Tower and post office. Everyday we have been writing sentences. We have been thinking about using capital letters, full stops and finger spaces.
In maths this week we have been learning about halving. We have enjoyed engaging with lots of different activities to help us to half. We have been printing numicon into playdough and then using a knife to half the numicon. You have been sharing food between your teddies. You have even used a part part whole model this week to show halving. I was super impressed by your maths skills and how you realised that halving is the opposite to doubling. We have super mathematicians in reception.
In our communication and language work, we have been enjoying singing lots of different nursery rhymes.
For our physical development you had your PE session with thrive. You worked hard on your kicking and tackling skills. By the end of the lesson you had your very first football match. You were all amazing! You also spent some time practicing your sports day races with preschool. We had so much fun and can’t wait for the real event!
In your expressive arts, you have been creating little booklets out of paper. You learnt how to fold the paper and then you created lots of bird books. You cut out your pictures of different birds and then labelled them. You have also been enjoying mixing your secondary colours together to see what colours you can make. You have done this with both paint and food colouring. In music, you listened to different types of music and you had to say what you liked and didn’t like about the music.
In our understanding the world, you focused a lot on birds this week. We learnt the names of many different birds we see in our garden. You listened to what sort of sounds they make so you can listen out for them in our garden. Many of you spent your choosing time watching out for birds using the binoculars. You used a ten frame to count how many different birds you saw. On Thursday, you even found a bird’s egg that had been dropped by a crow. You very kindly built a nest for the egg and hoped that the egg would be found by it’s mummy. You have also been very busy planting different types of plants in our reception garden and in the allotment area in school.
In our wellbeing time this week, you told me what you wanted to be in the future. This was so lovely to hear! We had all sorts of things from rockstars to vets.
In our heartsmart, we found a post card from Boris that said ‘Thank you for being my friends and for my lovely postcards. I am thankful for every one of you. You all make me very happy. I wonder what you are thankful for?’ We then spoke about the things we were thankful for in our lives. It made my heart and Boris’ heart feel very happy when we listened to all of your lovely ideas.
We also enjoyed some buddy time with our Y6 buddies. We had so much fun being shown how to code using an app on the ipads.
On Friday, you had a special visitor from the canal trust who taught you how to be safe when walking around canals. You listened to the story of ‘quack quack, take two steps back’. You then joined in with the song and used puppets to act the song out.
Have a wonderful weekend reception.
See you on Monday,
