Reception weekly newsletter- 25,09.26

Wow reception, you have well and truly settled into your rhythms and routines now and the weeks are just flying by.

This week in phonics you have learnt the ‘ I, n, p, g and o’ sounds. You have started to read some of these words using ‘special friends, fred talk, read the word’.

In handwriting you have learnt how to form the ‘l, n, p, g and o’ sounds.

In literacy we have been continuing to read our story of ‘Come to school too, blue kangaroo’. We have been so excited coming into school and seeing what our class kangaroo has been up to throughout the night. There has been a buzz of excitement as you have come through the door each day. Our writing focus has been on writing initial sounds in words about our story. You have done an amazing job! We also had a super exciting mark making lesson on Friday where we thought carefully about how to hold our pencil using our nip, flip and grip and then we thought about how we can copy different patterns that helps our fine motor control and letter formation in the future.

In maths, our focus this week has been recognising the numerals 1-5 and counting out objects to match each of the numerals. You have done a wonderful job!

In our PE lesson, you followed on with the story about Bertie the Bunny. You found out that he was on his way to the farmer’s fields and wanted to collect all of his carrots to hide in his burrow. You collected all of the carrots ‘bean bags’ and threw them into your burrows. You were taught how to do under arm throw and an over arm throw. At the end of the lesson, you learnt how to throw and catch your bean bags. We realised that our eyes are very important because we need to always be looking at the item we are throwing.

In our RE learning we continued to build upon our learning about the creation story and how Christians believe that God created people. We found out that we are all special and individual because we have our very own finger print that is different to everyone else’s. You had a go at using ink to stamp your finger prints.

You completed your music lesson with Mrs Pointon and you have been focusing on using body percussion.

For our PHSE learning, you had a very exciting visitor as we got to meet PC Nick for the first time. PC Nick taught us how to stay safe when we are outside of school. He told us that we must always hold our adult’s hand. We must always stop at roads and check for traffic. We must always wear a seat belt and never try and take it off when the car is moving. He told us all about his job and how he helps people to stay safe in our communities. Then it was really exciting as we got to see the police van and we all got to sit in the back of the van!!

We have spent a lot of our time this week practicing our welcome service with our Y6 buddies. We can’t wait for you to see this next week.

As well as all of this, we have been exploring in the garden making potions, pulling our plants down that have died, creating a new digging area, looking for bugs and insects. We have also explored the classroom and made lots of yummy food in the role play area, read books in the tree house, used watercolours to make self and family portraits and use our fine motor control to make lots of different food in the play dough area.

It’s been another fantastic week with you all reception. I am so proud of how well you work and how kind you are everyday. Your families should be so proud of you as I know I am.
