Reception weekly newsletter 2.10.26
Time is just flying by in Reception, I can’t believe you have now been a part of Wybunbury Delves for five weeks.
In phonics this week you continued to learn your set 1 sounds. You learnt the sounds ‘c,k,u,b and f’. You have already learnt to orally blend words and you have even tried to read words too. You are all doing a fabulous job!
In handwriting, we learnt how to write the sound that we had learnt in phonics.
In literacy, we finished our story of ‘come to school too, blue kangaroo’. You have loved this book and it has brought us so much joy finding out what blue kangaroo has been upto during the night. This week, we learnt how to read a story map to retell the story and we have been focusing on writing the initial sounds in words from our story.
In our communication and language, you learnt your weekly poem of ‘Say sorry’. Using our Personal, social and emotional developmental skills we focused on why it’s important to say sorry.
In maths this week, we have been focusing on conceptual subsitising. This concept just means we have been looking at different arrangements of five and seeing if we can see any numbers within five. We have loved dropping pinecones into hoops and seeing where they land. We then found out they were grouped together so sometimes we had a 3, 1 and a 1 or sometimes we had a 2, 2 and a 1. We have used lots of different maths activities during our week to explore this concept.
In physical development, we had to get Berties carrots to the burrows. You had to learn how to throw and catch to other bunnies to then throw those carrots into the burrows (hoops). Unfortunately Dexter Dog was trying to steal all of the carrots from you so you had to learn how to dodge him.
In understanding the world, we learnt about the season of Autumn. You learnt that some animals get ready for hibernation and some trees lose their leaves. We went on a hunt for Autumnal items. In our provision areas this week you have done leaf rubbing, conker rolling and making Autumnal soups.
In expressive arts and design, you have completed your music lesson with Mrs Pointon. The theme this week was all around the story of ‘I’m going on a bear hunt.’
In our RE lesson, we learnt that Christians believe God made us all different. We learnt that people on earth are rainbow of skin colours and that nobody looks the exact same. We thought about how we are different and wrote this in our floor book.
We have also celebrated harvest this week and learnt all about harvest in our worship time. Our harvest activity this year was to collect items for the Nantwich food bank. We organised and grouped all of the items and boxed them up. Thank you so much for everyone in our school community who donated.
This week has also been our welcome service, please see our other newsletter!
We really enjoyed our buddy time this week as we got to meet up in our house colours. We visited the adventure playground, fort Lewis and daily mile track.
What a wonderful but very busy week!
Have a super weekend superstars,
Miss Haynes
