Reception, I am so delighted that I am your teacher! I have
had a super first week with you. You have made me smile and laugh everyday and
you have made me feel so welcome in our reception classroom. Mrs Ward was right
you are all superstars!
For our communication and language this week, we have been
developing our listening, understanding and speaking skills. We met Amanda for
our first ‘live the beat’ session. Amanda taught us lots of songs and games to
play. Amanda taught us to speak confidently, use eye contact, listen, smile and
sing nicely. We have enjoyed singing these songs during our snack time so we
can develop our oracy further. This is also link to our expressive arts and
design learning as we have been singing songs.
In our physical development we had our first PE session with
thrive. We continued with our stories about Bertie Bear and Marvin the Monkey.
We learnt to hop over Bertie’s burrows by hopping from 1 leg and landing on 2
legs and then starting from 2 legs and landing on 1 leg. You were all brilliant
at this. You then helped Marvin the Monkey to pick up all of the fruits (beanbags)
and put them in the correct coloured hoop. Finally, you finished your session
by being introduced to the tigers and lions. You had to dribble your football
around the cones without being caught by one of the tigers. What a fun session we
had. You had an extra PE lesson this week with your buddies and Coach Beth and
Miss Holland. You absolutely loved having this extra time to do with PE your
buddies. They helped you to complete lots of different challenges. To help with
our fine motor control, each day you have come into school and accessed one of
our fine motor baskets. You have been screwing nails into a wooden block, made
different shapes using the magnetic tiles or linked shapes together. This has
really helped you to have a slower start to your mornings and for you to have a little chat with your friends whilst
you do this.
In Literacy, you got left a letter and some seeds. By the
seeds it said ‘Plant these seeds and see what they grow into’. We were
completely hooked into our story and we wanted to find out more. Each day we
have read a little more of our story called ‘The extraordinary gardener’. You
have learnt all about Joe the gardener and how he has a wild imagination which
helps him to escape from his ordinary world. You have developed your language
whilst learning some new vocabulary. You have also developed your writing
skills as you have been writing sentences each day about our story. We remember
that we need to use capital letters, full stops and finger spaces. You have also been learning your
phonics sounds in your new groups and reading your stories.
This week, we have been working really hard in maths to
count all the way to 100. Each day we have been getting to a number and by
Friday we were able to count all the way to 100. We have used lots of songs
like 12345 once I caught a fish alive to help us with our counting. In our
provision we have been making numbers to 20, ordering numbers to 20 and
practicing our counting to 100 with our teachers. I am so proud of how hard we
have worked reception!
For our understanding of the world, we met DC Kevin Andrews
who taught us all about how to stay safe when playing games online. We found
out that we have to keep our passwords secret and make sure we only tell them
to our mums and dads or carers. We now know not to tell anyone else our
password. We also found out that if we speak to a stranger we need to make sure
we tell our mums and dads RIGHT NOW! We now know how to stay safe when playing
games online. We loved singing our song and playing the musical instruments to
it. We have also been focusing on plants and what a seed needs to grow. We have
also been very lucky this week as Mrs Crowther (Miss Willis) gave us lots of
different flowers from her wedding bouquet which we have used in many of our
provision areas. We have water coloured the flowers, made flower soup and used
the petals in the water tray! Thank you so much Mrs Crowther for making our
play so much more interesting.
In our expressive arts and design, we have been singing new
songs and learning how to water colour by keeping within the lines and holding
our paint brush correctly.
In our wellbeing work, we focused on 'what our favourite place is'. I loved listening to all of your ideas and this really helped me to get to know all of you.
In RE, we learnt about Jesus when he was a boy. We thought about how our lives are similar and different to his. We thought about how the bible is split into the old testament and the new testament. We learnt that Jesus would have listened to stories from the old testament like 'Moses'. We listened to this story and thought about how much love was shown towards Moses. We wrote all of the people's names we love in a love heart.
What a fantastic week reception! I have loved every moment.
Have a wonderful weekend,
Miss Haynes
