Reception weekly newsletter 18.09.26
Wow reception we have had such a productive week. We have been fully emerged into our learning this week.
In literacy, we finished our storybook of ‘who am I?’ We have thoroughly enjoyed this book and we have learnt so much about each other through our conversations. We have learnt what we look like, who our families are, what our favourite toy/games are, where we have been on trips/ holidays and most importantly our favourite food. Towards the end of the week we started our new book. We had some sensory trays left for us in the classroom which gave us clues about our new story. We found lots of school uniform in one box, blocks and paintings made out of glitter in another and then finally we found a baby kangaroo wrapped up in a blanket covered with leaves. We wondered who left these items? Who the kangaroo belonged to? Who the clothes belonged to? It was so exciting! We were introduced to the cover of the story and we then focused on writing initial sounds in words.
In phonics this week we learnt the sounds m,s, a, d and t. We also learnt how to write these letters. We were completely blown away by your handwriting and your focus when doing these small group activities.
In your communication and language you have focused on the poem ‘Don’t shout’. Which really helped our PSED learning and led to lots of discussion of how we should talk to others and what we can do when we feel angry! You can find this poem on seesaw as we love to share our weekly poems with you.
In maths, you have focused on counting to five, subitising to five and counting amounts to five. Our number block videos helped to introduce us to these numbers and we have carried out lots of different activities with this focus in mind. You’ve been on number hunts, rolling play dough to match the amounts, putting the correct scoops of sand in each container and building enclosures and putting in animals to match the number. I am so incredibly proud of your hard work in maths. We were only meant to focus on numbers to three but you were too good at this so we focused on numbers to 5.
In RE, you focused on the creation story and how God made us all differently. We thought about what the word unique means and how you are all unique. You then thought about what your favourite thing is that God made.
In heartsmart for your PSED learning we focused on what is a 'good choice'. We made a toolbox and wrote all of the good choices you thought of and displayed it in the classroom as a reminder.
In expressive arts and design, you had your music lesson with Mrs Pointon. We have also done lots of practice of our songs that we are going to sing at our welcome service.
In our well-being focused we focused on what our favourite colours were.
In our physical development you focused on the skills of running, jumping and throwing.
We also enjoyed buddy time this week where we snuggled up with our buddies whilst they read a story to us.
Our highlight of the week was definitely going on the adventure playground for the very first time- what an experience!
What a fabulous week it’s been. Mrs Lloyd and I are so proud of you all. You are so incredibly kind, well behaved and always give 100% to your learning. Well done for being so fantastic!
Have a super weekend,
Miss Haynes
