Reception weekly newsletter-16.10.26
Can you believe we have nearly finished our first term in Reception.
In literacy this week, we started our new book. We are so excited to read a few pages each day. This helps us with our prediction skills as we think carefully about what we think is going to happen next. On Monday we found a squirrel in the classroom with lots of different coloured leaves around it. We then found a poster that said ‘LOST’. We realised that our squirrel had lost an orange sycamore leaf. We’ve been writing initial letters, CVC words and writing preposition words to show if the squirrel was ‘in’ something or ‘on’ something.
In phonics we have been recapping our set 1 sounds we have learnt so far to ensure we can remember them.
In maths, we have been learning all about height and length. We learnt the language of ‘longer, taller and shorter’ and then used this language to compare different objects. We then used non-standard units of measurement to measure different objects. We even measured our height with paper. We loved doing this!
In heartsmart, we learnt that our hearts need to be looked after and protected. We learnt this from going on a hunt for our friend’s heart and looking after them.
In physical development, we completed our PE lesson where we had to practice our running, throwing and catching skills. We had to pass the carrots to everyone who didn’t have a carrot and we then had to run over the farmer’s fields. We were only able to run if Dexter dog called our name
In RE, we read the story 'Clever cub and the case of worries'. We learnt that as we are all different we all have different worries. We thought about some of the things we have worried about in the past. We spoke about that we should always share our worries with teachers or our families at home.
You've enjoyed your music lesson with Mrs Pointon this week. You also enjoyed your buddy time. We are really enjoying playing with the Year Six children in our house colour.
Over the week, we have painted, used chalk to help strengthen the muscles in our shoulders, made Autumnal potions, role played and completed jigsaws.
You have had a fantastic week Reception and I am always so proud of you,
Miss Haynes
