What a wonderful and very hot week we have had in reception!

In English, we started our final storybook. On Monday we had some clues left in our classroom that were going to help us find more about our new story. We found a teddy with a tag around it that said ‘lost’. He was sat in some sand whilst being surrounded by shells. This led into a conversation about all the things we have lost in our lives and how it has made us feel. We thought about how upset the owner must be without their teddy bear. During the week, we looked at the front cover and read a few pages. You have worked really hard on writing lots of fantastic sentences about the story so far.

In phonics, you have been continuing to learn your new sounds and read your new story books.

In handwriting, you have been learning how to form the capital letters Q, R, S, T. You handwriting is just fantastic!

In maths, you have started to learn about time and we have learnt he vocabulary of ‘Before, after and next. We will continue this next week by learning the days of the week, months of the year and how we can measure time in seconds and minutes.

In physical development, you were lucky enough to have your PE lesson at the start of the week when it was nice and cool. You worked very hard on your fundamental skills of throwing and catching. It’s amazing how many of your are now able to catch accurately.

In our understanding of the world, we were able to watch the preschool’s butterflies hatch out of their cocoons. You were amazed by this. We then got to sit with pre school and watch the butterflies fly away into the wild. Thank you Helen for providing us with a hands on experience of the lifecyle of a butterfly.

The rest of our week has been spent trying to keep cool, eating ice lollies, opening up our own reception spa and having lots of water fights and fun with the bubbles. I am so proud of how well you have coped in this heat, it definitely isn’t easy. We have completed lots of work this week on sun safety and you all did so well to keep yourselves safe.

Our highlight of the week was definitely our class worship. I am beyond proud of how hard you worked to practice your worship and then deliver it to the school and all of your lovely families. I am so proud of how confidently you spoke, your amazing singing voices and the bravery you showed by standing up in front of an audience when you are only 4 and 5, especially in this heat too. I am so grateful to be your reception teacher and watch you shine so brightly every single day. You bring so much joy to my life!

Have the best weekend, stay cool and I will see you on Monday superstars.
