Reception newsletter
We’ve had a wonderful start back to our half term whilst diving straight into our topic of celebrations and cultural festivals.
In literacy, we found a bunch of balloons in our classroom with lots of signs that says ‘BEWARE of the porcupine’. We found out that these were the clues to our new story ‘Gordon’s great escape’. Each day we have been reading a part of the story and we have done lots of writing. This week we have been focusing on writing captions and labels. I am just so so impressed with your writing reception. You are all incredible!
In phonics, we have moved into our first ever phonics groups. We have been learning different set 1 sounds, reading words and even spelling words with our sound in.
In maths, I have been so proud of your work. You have been learning about AB patterns. By the end of the week you could all make your own pattern and even work out where an AB pattern has gone wrong.
In our communication and language, you have been learning poems about bonfire night and a poem about using blocks to make towers and castles!
In our understanding of the world learning, you delved straight in by learning about why we celebration Bonfire night. You have also started to learn about the cultural festival of Diwali. This week you have made rocket fireworks, sparklers in the garden and Diwali lamps. I am sure you can agree that these look fantastic.
In expressive arts and design, you started to learn about the primary colours and how we can mix these to make secondary colours. What fun you had with Mrs Pointon! We also enjoyed a rocksteady concert- what fun we had head banging!
In PE, you focused on trying to run and dodge using Bertie the bunny as our stimulus.
In RE we continued our learning about Harvest and why we say ‘Thank you’.
What a great first week back we’ve had reception!
Have a wonderful weekend,
Miss Haynes
