We have had another busy week in reception!
In our Literacy work this week we have been reading some
more of our book each day. By the end of the week we had finished our book and
had learnt everything about how Joe’s wild imagination helped to change his world
and make it a better place. We found out that his little tiny seed had grown
into a huge apple tree. Each day we have been writing sentences about our
story. We have been thinking about using capital letters, full stops and finger
spaces.
In maths this week we have been learning about odds and even
numbers. At the start of the week we grouped up our numicon. You decided on how
you wanted to group them. Some groups chose their favourite colours and non
favourite colours. Some groups chose numicons with a ‘sticky bit coming out of
it’ and ‘flat top’. We then learnt that the difference between these two pieces
of numicon was odd and even. Later on in the week you watched the numblocks episode
of odds and evens. You then sorted out blocks into ‘odd tops’ and ‘even tops’.
By the end of the week you had learnt that the pattern of 1-10 just goes odd,
even, odd, even. This helped some of you to predict what numbers would be odd
and what numbers would be even. In our provision we have been sorting out lots
of different representations of odds and evens, you have been making odd and
even numbers on ten frames with counters and you have even used play dough to
make odd and even numbers. You are now experts!
In our communication and language work, you have been
working hard on the songs that Amanda had taught us last week. We sing these
songs during our snack time and we think carefully about using our confident voice.
We have also been learning a poem about dinosaurs.
For our physical development you had your PE session with
thrive. You worked hard on your kicking skills. You had to kick your balls with
the inside of your feet. You found out that this was called dribbling. We then
had some tigers trying to tackle your ball off you. I was so impressed with how
hard all of you worked in PE this week. Mr J was very impressed with your behaviour!
In RE this week we learnt about another story that Jesus would
listen to from the old testament. You
listened to the story of ‘Clever club trusts God’. We learnt about how there were
brave spies in the bible called Joshua and Caleb. The story teaches us to put
our trust in God and share our emotions. We thought carefully about the stories
we listen to, who tells us these stories and where we listen to these stories.
In your expressive arts, you have been learning to make
chalk paint and you have been painting all sorts of things in the garden. This
really helps with your gross motor skills. In music, you have started to learn
how to play the glockenspiels with Mrs Pointon.
In our understanding the world, you learnt all about St George’s
day. It was lovely to hear how some of you had already learnt about this in
rainbows.
We also enjoyed some buddy time with our Y6 buddies. We had
so much fun playing on the adventure playground.
Have a wonderful sunny weekend reception.
See you on Monday,
