What a fantastic week we have reception!

In English this week you worked hard with Mrs Chesters and Mrs Lloyd as I was busy doing phonics jobs with Year One. You read all of your story of ‘The storm whale’ and wrote some fantastic sentences in your books. You focused on using tricky words in your sentences and spelling them correctly, questions and even sentences that had names in so you could practice your capital letters! Towards the end of the week you watched some videos about whales and wrote some factual sentences about blue whales.

In phonics you continued to learn your new sounds in your groups and practice your reading.

In handwriting you continued to learn how to form your capital letters  G, H, I, J, K.

In maths, you have been learning about patterns. You were all very confident at continuing to repeat an AB, ABB or ABC pattern and you remembered this learning from when you worked with Mrs Ward on patterns. We built upon this learning by starting to create our own AB and ABC patterns. You then learnt how to modify and change these patterns to something else. You used natural materials, blocks, numicon and actions to modify your patterns. You were very good at identifying what each of the patterns were. By the end of the week you were pattern experts and I was so proud of the progress you had made in a week.

In your physical development, you worked hard with THRIVE to develop your fundamental skills. This week you practiced running, jumping, hopping and throwing and catching. I was so impressed with all of the skills you showed in your learning.  In your fine motor skills, you have been practicing threading beads onto a string and using magnetic tiles to make different structures.

In your understanding of the world, you have been continuing to learn about the lifecycle of a caterpillar. This week our caterpillars had made their chrysalis and were hanging in the net. We are so excited now that we are only days away from having butterflies in our EYFS setting. Thank you Helen for sharing this learning with us.

It’s been a very rainy start to our summer so we tried to get out in the garden when we could. We managed to share some buddy time in the garden as we got to play together before the rain came down again. Most of our learning time has been in the classroom where we have been making different structures in the construction area, practicing our creative skills in the art area or practicing our pouring and measuring in the sand area. We are hoping for better weather next week!

You have worked so hard reception! Have a wonderful weekend and I will see you next week.
