This week we have been doing our best to stay cool in the hot weather, enjoying lots of water fun and spending plenty of time in the shade. A big thank you to Year 1 for sharing their lovely cool room with us when things got a little too warm.
The children really enjoyed the story Rosie Revere, Engineer, especially the message about trying again even when things don’t work the first time. This linked beautifully to our learning about resilience and having another go. Our rhyme of the week was Jelly on a Plate, which brought lots of fun wobbling, sizzling and popping as the children joined in with the actions.
In maths, we have been practising our subitising, looking closely at numbers up to 3 and spotting small groups of numbers within numbers to 5. The children are becoming more confident at recognising amounts without counting, which is a key early maths skill.
One of the most exciting moments of the week was releasing our butterflies. The children watched them flutter up into the blue sky, and we talked about how they might come back to visit our garden. This supported Understanding the World as the children observed real-life changes and life cycles.
We have also enjoyed making some music this week, with the children playing along to the Creepy Crawly Calypso with lots of different instruments including an accordion and violin.
We are looking forward to a busy week ahead. Our older children will be visiting the Reception class for their transition sessions, helping them feel confident and familiar with their new environment. We are also excited to welcome our new September starters for their preschool visits. It’s a special time of year with lots of new beginnings, and we can’t wait to share it with the children.
