We’ve had a busy and exciting week in preschool, filled with stories, learning, and lots of sunshine. Our literacy time included The Snail and the Whale, Tiddler, and Jack and the Beanstalk. The children enjoyed joining in with the stories, talking about the characters, and sharing their ideas. Our rhyme of the week was Five Little Peas, which brought lots of smiles as we sang and used our fingers to show the peas popping.

In maths, we have been working on counting and understanding numbers to 5. The children practised knowing that when we count a group of objects and get to 5, it is still 5 even if we don’t count them again. They are becoming much more confident with this important early skill.

In HeartSmart, we talked about telling the truth. We linked this to the story Tiddler, thinking about tall tales and why it’s important to be honest. We thought about making good choices and being truthful with friends and grown ups.

Our older children continued their Read Write Inc. learning with the sound a, while our younger children enjoyed Ready, Steady, Stop games and practised our “Patch the Pumpkin” rules—listening carefully, stopping safely, and taking turns.

For physical development, we had our very first Sports Day practice on Thursday. The children did brilliantly at waiting for the whistle and running straight to the line of cones. We were so proud of their listening and teamwork.

Outside, we made the most of the sunshine with bikes, diggers in the soil, and lots of imaginative play. Indoors, the water tray was very popular, especially with the pipes and funnels. Some amazing train tracks were built too, stretching all around preschool.

We also celebrated Earth Day, talking about how we can look after our planet. The children created beautiful cotton bud painted pictures to mark the day. For St George’s Day, we shared the story of George and the Dragon and painted our own St George’s
flags.

Next week, we will be exploring Dingle Dangle Scarecrow, reading Handa’s Surprise, and enjoying some fruit tasting together.
