Throughout the week, the children have shown wonderful teamwork, curiosity, and care for the world around them as we have been learning all about how to look after our world.

Our stories of the week were Somebody Swallowed Stanley and Who Crunched Colin?. These stories helped us to develop our Communication and Language skills as the children shared their thoughts, asked questions, and talked about what was happening in the stories. They were especially interested in how the animals were affected by the rubbish.

This led us into our Understanding the World learning, where we talked about how litter can harm animals and our environment. The children were shocked to find rubbish in our preschool garden, which inspired us to go on a litter pick around preschool and the school playground. As we worked together, we discussed how we can help care for our world by putting rubbish in the bin, recycling, and reusing materials, as well as planting to help our environment grow.

Our rhyme of the week was 5 Green Bottles, which supported both Literacy and Maths as the children joined in with actions, counted down, and used number language together.

As part of Understanding the World, we also planted our own potatoes, talking about how food grows and what plants need to stay healthy. The children showed great curiosity and enjoyed getting hands-on with the planting.

In Maths, we explored mass, using balance scales and a Newton meter to compare objects. The children used language such as heavy and light and began to make simple predictions before testing them.

During our Heartsmart (PSED) session, we focused on being kind friends. The children practised giving high fives, thumbs up, kind words, and friendly waves, learning that there are lots of ways to show kindness to one another.

In Expressive Arts and Design, we created recycled jellyfish using paper plates and plastic bags. This creative activity helped the children think about reusing materials while expressing their ideas through art.

Next week:
We will be celebrating Easter, learning about new life, and enjoying activities with eggs and bunnies.
