We have had a lovely week in preschool exploring our theme “How We’ve Grown.” The children really enjoyed sharing their baby photos, and we had great fun guessing who was who. This led to wonderful conversations about all the things we can do now that we couldn’t do when we were babies, supporting confidence, independence and Understanding the World.

In maths, we explored 2D shapes, matching them together and learning some of their names. The children counted sides and corners and looked closely to see if a shape had just one curved line. They used lots of mathematical language and showed great curiosity as they compared shapes and talked about what they noticed.

Outside, World Cup fever has definitely arrived. Our football nets have been up all week, and the children have been practising kicking the ball towards the goal and remembering not to use their hands. This has been brilliant for developing balance, coordination and gross motor skills, and the children have loved cheering each other on.

Our HeartSmart focus was learning to be like Incy Wincy Spider—to keep trying even when things feel tricky or don’t go our way. Incy Wincy was also our rhyme of the week, and the children enjoyed singing it with actions and talking about resilience and determination.

Our story of the week was “I Can Do It!” We discussed all the things we can do for ourselves now, such as putting on our own clothes, helping to make breakfast and brushing our teeth. The children were proud to share their ideas and celebrate their growing independence.

On Thursday we went on a lovely summer walk, collecting grasses, petals and flowers. The children used their treasures to make beautiful summer sticky pictures, showing great creativity and care. Everyone also practised writing their names this week—well done to all the children for their brilliant effort.

Friday was very exciting as we harvested our preschool potatoes. The children counted and weighed them to see which bag had the most, using lots of mathematical thinking. The potatoes have been sent home for you to cook and enjoy together.

The children have sorted winter and summer clothes, choosing the right outfits for the season. They also enjoyed water play, jungle animals, cars, the mud kitchen, and caring for babies and prams. It has been a very busy and joyful week with lots of imaginative play and hands on learning.

Next week we will be celebrating Make Music Day on Monday, continuing to share baby photos, and of course carrying on with lots more fun and learning.
