Preschool news 16.1.26

This week in preschool we have launched into our exciting new space theme, and the children have loved every moment!

Our rhyme of the week has been “Zoom, Zoom, Zoom, We’re Going to the Moon,” and our story of the week was “Whatever Next!” We used story props to act out the adventure, taking turns to fly to the moon just like Baby Bear.

Our role-play area has transformed into Space Ground Control, and it has been very busy! The children have enjoyed speaking into headsets, typing on keyboards, writing lists, counting down to blast-off, and using their hand strength to power dynamo torches.

In our creative area, the children worked hard to make junk-model rockets using boxes, paper, glue, and tape. Each rocket was unique and showed lots of imagination.

For fine motor skills, the children continued building igloos with tiny cubes and followed a space explorer’s trail, carefully uncovering hidden spacemen.

Our gross motor activities included Squiggle, making wavy lines, and bat-and-ball games, where the children practiced hitting the ball along the floor to a friend and back again.

In our Heartsmart session, we focused on being a friend in need. The children took turns balancing a beanbag on their head, and when it fell, their partner helped by picking it up—showing kindness and teamwork.

We also enjoyed making oral story maps, first creating a story together and then having a go at making our own during free-flow play.

In Maths, we continued practising one-to-one correspondence from 1 to 5 and explored positional language such as up, down, through, over, and under during a fun beanbag game.

We finished the week learning some exciting space facts, including that there is a lot of space in space, you can travel to the moon in a rocket, and that it took astronauts three days to fly there.

We can’t wait to continue our space adventures next week!
