Preschool news 16.10.26
We’ve had a wonderfully busy week in Preschool, full of exploring feelings, trying new tastes and enjoying more of our jungle theme.
Our story of the week was Our Jungle, which encouraged the children to think about the animals they might meet and to join in with repeated phrases. This supported Communication and Language as they listened carefully and talked about what they could see and hear in the pictures. Our rhyme, If You’re Happy and You Know It, helped us begin thinking about our emotions and how we show them.
In HeartSmart, we read Hippo Is Happy and talked about different feelings. The children sorted pictures of people who looked happy and not happy, beginning to name emotions and recognise them in themselves and others. This links closely to Personal, Social and Emotional Development, helping children understand their own feelings and respond to others with kindness.
Our sense of taste was a big focus this week. The children explored lots of different flavours — sweet, tangy, salty and savoury — and talked about which ones they liked or didn’t like. We also made fruit kebabs, which supported Physical Development through fine motor skills as the children carefully pushed fruit pieces onto their sticks, as well as Understanding the World as they explored new tastes and textures.
In maths, we looked at more and fewer. The children counted how many friends were having packed lunches and how many were having hot dinners, and compared who chose which snack. These everyday moments help children build early number sense and support the EYFS area of Number through meaningful, real life counting.
A special part of our week was sharing the family pictures you kindly posted on Seesaw. The children were so proud to show their photos, talk about the people they love and listen to their friends’ stories. This supported Communication and Language as well as Personal, Social and Emotional Development, helping everyone feel connected and valued.
It has been a warm, joyful week of learning, tasting and sharing. We are so proud of how the children are growing in confidence, independence and curiosity each day.
