We’ve had a lovely week in preschool exploring our garden theme, with a special focus on worms.
Our story of the week was Superworm, and the children enjoyed joining in with the repeated phrases and talking about how worms help our garden. We sang Wiggly Woo and explored “spaghetti worms” in our investigation tray, supporting Communication and Language and sensory exploration.
The children also helped make a wormery, had great fun worm charming, and were very excited to be visited by our sun beetles, building their Understanding of the World.
In maths, we explored 3D shapes and structures, building towers, arches, houses, and enclosures. The children talked about the shapes they used and how to make their models taller and how to include doors and windows, supporting early problem solving and reasoning.
Our older children learned the Read Write Inc. sound t, spotting it in words like tower—just like Wybunbury Tower! We also continued practising oral blending to support early Phonics skills.
For Physical Development, we carried on with Sports Day practice and worked on fine motor control by building hand strength in the water tray. Outdoors, we enjoyed football, brushing puddles after the rain, more planting, and caring for our garden. The children also built a bug hotel using recycled materials and went on lots of bug hunts.
Indoors, building activities linked to our maths learning were very popular. The children also enjoyed bug stampers in playdough, car tracks, and indoor picnics.
In HeartSmart, we talked about the things we do in our own homes—what we like to eat, play with, read, and help with, Boris says we are all special and unique —supporting Personal, Social and Emotional Development.
Next week, we’ll be celebrating World Bee Day and on Friday competing in our Sports Day.
