This week in preschool we have sprung into Science Week! The children have been busy exploring lots of different types of scientists.
We became palaeontologists, investigating dinosaur bones and fossils and learning about dinosaurs that lived long ago. We also turned into chemists and watched an exciting experiment when cola and Mentos created a fizzy eruption! The children were fascinated by what happened.
Our role-play area became a doctor’s surgery, where the children enjoyed being medical doctors and patients. We also talked about how to be a first aider, learning that if someone is hurt we should ask a grown-up for help. The children practised carefully putting plasters on dolls and looking after their patients.
In Maths, we explored 3D shapes, discovering which shapes roll and which slide by looking at their curved and flat faces. We also made a dinosaur tally chart to find out everyone’s favourite dinosaur. The children enjoyed making marks and then counting the tally lines to see which dinosaur had the most and which had fewer.
Our story of the week was The Worrysaurus, about a little dinosaur who learns that worrying doesn’t help and that it’s important to enjoy the moment—especially when the sun is shining.
Our sound of the week was ‘s’, and we had lots of fun singing an alliteration song using the children’s names. Our rhyme of the week was Miss Polly Had a Dolly, which fitted perfectly with our doctor theme.
We hope you all enjoyed the Mother’s Day flower crafts that came home. The children worked very hard to create their own special pieces of art for you.
Next week we will be thinking about recycling and looking after our world, sharing the story Somebody Swallowed Stanley and learning how we can help protect animals and sea creatures.
