Preschool News 10.7.26

This week in preschool we have been making the most of another hot and sunny week, finding lots of ways to stay cool while having fun together.

During our Heartsmart (PSED) session, the children took on Boris' cup stacking challenge. It wasn't always easy, but everyone showed fantastic perseverance, trying again when their towers tumbled down. We talked about how it's okay if something feels tricky at first and how we can achieve amazing things when we keep going and don't give up.

In Mathematics, we explored volume and capacity through lots of hands-on water play. The children investigated different-sized containers, making predictions and testing their ideas by pouring and filling. We were amazed to discover that a tall, thin container didn't always hold more water than a short, wide one! This sparked lots of curiosity, mathematical thinking, and wonderful conversations.

To ensure everyone had the opportunity to take part, we revisited Pantosaurus and the Power of Pants. Through the story and song, the children learned about keeping themselves safe, using their confident voices to say "No!", and knowing that they can always talk to a trusted grown-up if something doesn't feel right.

As we begin to look back on our year together, we spent time sharing our favourite stories and rhymes. The children enjoyed talking about why they chose them, remembering favourite characters, joining in with familiar refrains, and sharing happy memories with their friends. This encouraged lots of wonderful Communication and Language as the children listened to one another and expressed their own ideas.

We also created our final self-portraits of the school year. It was lovely to see how much the children's confidence, drawing skills, and attention to detail have grown since they first joined us.

Of course, there was still plenty of time for lots of fun, with the children enjoying many of their favourite indoor and outdoor activities, making the most of the beautiful weather and spending time playing with their friends.

Next week is our final week of the school year. We'll be celebrating all of our wonderful memories together with lots of fun party-style games, songs, dancing, and special activities as we say goodbye to another fantastic year in preschool.
