Preschool News

Welcome back everybody! It was lovely to see the children back in preschool this week and to hear about the exciting things they did over the holidays.
This week we have started our new topic under the wider theme of 'Journeys and Discoveries' we are learning about 'Transport' and 'People who help us'.

We were very lucky on Monday to be joined by PC Nick who very kindly talked to the children about what a police officer does and how they keep us safe. He showed us his police car and the children were very excited to see the flashing lights and to hear the siren.

We have also been learning about Fire fighters this week seeing how they use special equipment to put out fires and rescue people. Along side learning about firefighters we practiced staying safe in preschool by taking part in our own fire drill.

We continued the fire safety theme discussing how to stay safe on bonfire night, with the children making their own sparklers and practicing holding them safely. We also listened to a special bonfire story with the children guessing what the sounds were that they could hear.

In our Heartsmart session this week we read a story about a princess and talked about how she did not need her crown to make her special, we then talked about how we are all special and how each of us is special in our own way.

Our number rhyme of the week this week is 5 little fireworks, which the children have learnt very quickly.

In literacy we have started to read our main story for the term 'The Train Ride' by June Crebbin, with the children showing some great listening skills. Some of the children have been choosing to practice writing their names using their name cards and white boards. We have also had some great Squiggle times this week using our gross motor skills to improve our fine motor and writing.

Next week we will be looking at more people who help us including Doctors and Dentists.
