This week in preschool we have been visited by our second type of mini beast 'stick insects!' The children have enjoyed trying to count how many they can see hidden in the tank (there were 6)

Our caterpillars have grown and started to turn into their chrysalises. We are eagerly awaiting their next transformation.

We have looked at some interesting facts about stick insects, discovering they have 6 legs, they hatch out of eggs into nymphs and they like to eat leaves. The children have also used straws and sticks to make their own pictures of a stick insect.

We have also compared pictures of lots of different types of insect and mini beast to see what was the same and what was different.

In our Heartsmart session this week we played a Boris game, which got us talking about the wonderful things the different parts of our bodies can do.

In our outdoor area the children have been very engaged playing with the drainpipe run. They have developed this over the course of the week extending the run, using different containers, removing the water bowl at the end of the run to make a river, and building bridges out of bricks and sticks (they also got a little wet!)

In literacy we have written our own oral story called 'The unicorn and the sea snail' and we have been practicing our rhyming and blending. We have also been trying to identify our names on our name cards without using our pictures (a good one to try at home).

Our rhyme of the week has been 'There's a little caterpillar on a leaf' the children have picked this up really quickly and are very good at telling us what happens next.

Next week are being visited by a different type of mini beast, making our transition visits to reception and watching our transforming caterpillars!
