Year Two's trip to Nantwich museum

What a wonderful trip Year Two have had today. We finished our learning of the 'Great fire of Nantwich' by bringing it to life by visiting Nantwich museum and having a tour around Nantwich.

We started off by going back in time and looking at a timeline to find out what period of time the fire started. You found out that it was during the Tudor times when Queen Elizabeth was on the throne. You then looked at some artefacts that the Tudors would have used. You found out that the houses were made from wattle and daub. After our introduction, you then went on a walk around Nantwich. Our fantastic tour guide showed us so many interesting things from that past that are still in Nantwich now. You found out that there is a chimney in the cocoa yard that made horseshoes, the church still has black parts on the sandstone from when it was burnt in the fire and you even saw the plaque. We interestingly found out that inns have straight lines and houses have curved/patterned lines from the wood. You enjoyed finishing our story by the pillory where you were able to put your hands through and think about how Nicholas Brown spent 2 whole days in there.

After an exciting lunch in the museum, you moved onto your indoor activities where you were able to dress up as rich/poor Tudors, play with an old watering can, write your name with ink and play with some Tudor toys. You then role-played how the women got the buckets of the water to the men in the town by standing in one big line. What fun we had!

We finished with a sketching session of a Tudor house and then it was time to say goodbye. You have had so much fun on your trip and learnt so much more. Your behaviour was absolutely fantastic and I know Nantwich museum were really impressed with your answers and question. Well done team!
