Happy Half Term Year 3!

Dear Parents and Carers,

What a fantastic week we have had in Year 3!

This week, we thoroughly enjoyed playing quick cricket and focused on developing our batting skills. The children showed excellent teamwork, determination and enthusiasm throughout. We were also very excited to participate in our first KS2 Sports Day! It was wonderful to see the children encouraging one another and taking part with such positivity and energy.

In Maths, we concluded our fractions unit and moved on to Geometry, where we explored 2D and 3D shapes. The children sorted shapes based on their properties and used lots of important mathematical vocabulary including polygons, vertices, edges, faces, sides, quadrilaterals and parallelograms. We especially enjoyed playing a fun game where we sorted different 2D shapes into a Carroll diagram.

In English, we completed our information texts all about our unique societies of creatures. The children worked incredibly hard on their final pieces and were very proud to share them with Year 1. It was lovely to see their confidence and creativity shine through.

In Science, we compared human skeletons with those of other animals. We learnt about endoskeletons and exoskeletons and discussed how different animal skeletons are adapted to suit their environments and support their survival.

In Art, we continued developing our gestural drawing skills by exploring chiaroscuro. The children experimented with smudging and shadows to add dimension and depth to their artwork, producing some very impressive pieces.

In DT, we focused on food preparation skills and learnt how to safely peel and chop a range of seasonal vegetables including beetroot, carrots, potatoes, cucumber, peppers and asparagus. The children had lots of fun while learning the correct grip and techniques for peeling and cutting safely.

In RE, we compared rules across different religions and identified similarities between them. The children had thoughtful discussions and showed great respect and curiosity throughout the lesson.

We hope you all have a wonderful half-term break and enjoy some sunshine! We cannot believe we are already entering our final half term in Year 3 — the year is flying by!
