Wow reception I can’t quite believe we have done one half term altogether. I have loved having you as my class and getting to know all of your wonderful personalities. You have shined so brightly and me and the EYFS team are so proud of you all.
In English, this week it was very exciting as we got to make our very own sandwiches just like in our story. You thought carefully about the toppings you would like on your sandwich and then we got to work making our very own sandwiches and then best of all we got to eat them for our snack. For the rest of the week, you used this activity to help you write some instructions on ‘How to make a sandwich’. I was so impressed by all of your incredible writing!
In phonics this week, you have been continuing to learn your new sounds. I have also completed your assessments and I was so impressed by the progress you have been making. Well done superstars!
In maths this week, we have been building upon our knowledge of counting. This week we looked carefully at counting to 50. We then got our counters out and put them on our 50 squares to hide missing numbers. You were very good at telling me what numbers were missing from the 50 square. I was also impressed by how many children can count over the tens barrier all the way to 50. You have worked very hard this week in lots of counting activities such as dot to dot sheets, counting blocks and sorting them into bags, singing counting songs and making towers out of the construction blocks and putting them in number order!
In our physical development you have been practicing your football skills in your PE session. You also spent some time on Thursday practicing our sports day. Each day, you have worked hard on your fine motor control by completing your fine motor activities.
In our RE work this week we completed our RE assessment and thought carefully about what we have learnt from our topic of ‘What stories did Jesus listen to when he was a boy’. It was so lovely listening to all of your wonderful ideas of what your favourite bible stories were and which ones you would have liked to be in.
In our understanding of the world we celebrated world bee day and learnt everything there is to know about bees. We then created our very own!
In our expressive arts and design, you have been practicing the glockenspiels with Mrs Pointon.
We have also spent lots of time building and constructing, making different petal potions in the water tray, painting, creating and using play dough to create different models.
One of our WOW moments this week was our buddy time where we spent some of the afternoon planting different types of plants in our allotment area in school. You worked incredibly hard digging the holes and then putting your plants in them. Your buddies were amazing at helping you. Each day we water these plants and can’t wait to harvest them when they are ready. Thank you to the wonderful pre-school family who donated these plants to us.
Another WOW moment was going to watch the Year Two’s perform their class worship. We think they were brilliant and we took lots of tips and ideas for our worship in June. Well done Year Two you were fantastic!
Our final WOW moment of the week was our sports day. Thank you so much to our wonderful families for coming down and cheering us on as we raced our races. You completed a sprint race, bean bag race, egg and spoon and even a superhero race. I couldn’t stop smiling the whole way through! You showed great sportsmanship as you cheered both reception and pre-school on. We then went back to our classroom and had a well deserved ice pop and chill.
You have worked so hard this week. I hope you have a fantastic half term break in the sunshine.
