Year 5 is taught by Mr Dale and learning is supported by Mrs Whittingham in the mornings.
I hope you have had a lovely Easter. I have enjoyed welcoming back lots of smiling and excited learners into school this week!
This term's learning will be based around a brilliant book called "Gorilla Dawn" by Gill Lewis. The story follows the main characters; Imara, Bobo and the young gorilla Kitwana. The story revolves around their three different viewpoints and takes place in the heart of Africa. In the forests of the Democratic Republic of Congo, rebel soldiers have started an illegal coltan mine that will make them rich but has endangered the native habitat. This is a fantastic book by Gill Lewis. Our book will underpin our learning throughout the term including leaf art by Georgia O'Keefe and the Amazon Rainforest in Geography.
The organisation of the week has slightly changed this term. Mr Charlesworth will now teach 2 hours of PE (1pm -- 3:15pm) on a Thursday afternoon. Please ensure all PE kits are in school and clearly labelled.
Homework is still set and discussed on a Friday. Including:
Spellings, SPaG, times table testing and reading diary checks will continue to run on Friday morning, so please ensure you bring in all your relevant books each Friday.
MyMaths homework will also be set every Friday and will recap the weeks learning, with at least one task to be completed.
Spag.com -- continuing from Spring term, one new task will be set using the online programme.
Times Table Rockstars -- continue to play to boost your rating!
There is already a buzz in the air as we delve into our story and I for one cannot wait to see where our learning journey together takes us...
