Welcome to Year 4!

Miss Rushton teaches Year 4. Mrs Charlesworth also teaches Year 4 on a Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

Welcome back to our last term together! I cannot believe that we are on our last term of Year 4; time flies when you're having fun! I hope our Summer Term learning journey will be lots of fun, exciting and mind filling with interesting facts. So what will we be learning this term? Well, we will be learning about... the Tudors. The Tudors are one of Britain's most famous royal families and a lot of our work will be based on discovering who the Tudor monarchs were. We will also be investigating the life of the rich and poor during the Tudor era. To find out more about the topics we will be looking at, please read the Holistic Plan. This term, I will also be taking us into Nantwich to see the Tudor buildings and to visit the Nantwich Museum.

During the Tudor era, a very important event happened; the Reformation. During the Reformation, people kept secrets, disobeyed the king and committed treason! The book we will be reading is called Treason by Berlie Doherty. It is a beautifully descriptive book that describes life in Tudor England. In the book, we will meet William Montague, a young boy who comes from a noble family. We will follow him on his journey to Court and learn about the problems the Reformation creates for him and his family. If you would like to bring in a book to read with us during class read, you are more than welcome too, however, please do not read ahead at home. This is for two reasons. First of all, and most importantly, I don't want you to finish the book before we do in class! Secondly, the book may be full of beautiful descriptions of Tudor England but with this superb writing comes some scenes written about Newgate Prison which some children may not like. Therefore, only suitable scenes describing the prison and prisoners will be read out during story times.

Hope you're looking forward to this term as much as I am,

Miss Rushton
