Miss Welch teaches Year 4 and our learning is supported by Mrs Cura, Mr Cornes and Mrs Samms.
I hope you have all had a fantastic Christmas and a happy new year. Everyone looked very refreshed and had lots of exciting news about their Christmas. It was lovely to hear all about the lovely things you did with your family and friends.
This terms learning will be based around an exciting new book called "The Firework Maker's Daughter" by Phillip Pullman. This is an exciting adventure story which follows a young girl on her travels to become a firework maker. Lila encounters lots of hurdles along her way which will make for some very exciting learning. This is a fantastic book full of trials and tribulations which I know will lend itself well to our work. Our book will underpin the our learning for this term, we will explore how physical features develop within Geography, how sounds travel in our Science lessons as well as exploring the history of China and the Shang Dynasty.
Our weekly timetable has been slightly adapted this term. PE will now take place during two separate hours of the week. Mr Charlesworth will now teach PE on a Tuesday from 13:00 to 14:00 and a Wednesday afternoon from 14:00-15:15. In addition, Music with Mrs Chesters has now be moved to a Tuesday afternoon from 14:00-15:15. Year 4 will be participating in a brass instrument lesson provided by Music For Life. You will all be learning how to play a musical instrument for free! I think this is an amazing experience and I can't wait for you to start learning. Each of you is going to be given your own instrument at the start of the term. You will be taking this home with you and you will be required to bring it in every Tuesday (during school time) for our weekly lesson. More information regarding this exciting opportunity will follow shortly.
Homework is still set and discussed on a Friday. Including:
Please bring the appropriate books for your homework to be stuck in.
Continuing from last term, timetables tests and mental maths test will take place on a weekly rotation and spelling tests will take place each week.
There is already a lot of excitement around our learning for this term and I am aware some of the children are already looking forward to reading more of our new book. I am really looking forward to another new term and cannot wait to see where this next adventure takes us...
