Dear Parents and Carers,

What a busy and exciting week we have had in Year 3! We have been working hard across the curriculum and enjoying lots of fun and engaging lessons.

In English, we have been focusing heavily on our reading phase. Each day, we read a section of our class text and answered comprehension questions orally with our talk partners. We have also begun to innovate our main character, the giant. The children drew their own versions of the giant, carefully thinking about appearance, before building expanded noun phrases and similes to describe them in detail.

In Maths, we started learning formal written methods for addition. We began with calculations that required no exchanging, then moved on to one exchange and finally multiple exchanges. To support our learning, we used counters and place value mats to strengthen our concrete understanding before progressing to pictorial and abstract methods.

Swimming was, as always, a highlight of the week! We had so much fun focusing on front crawl. It’s definitely the favourite day of the week, and one we all look forward to.

In Design and Technology, we evaluated existing wearable technology and discussed what makes these products successful. In Computing, we explored using Scratch by adding two different sprites to the stage and giving them three simple instructions using motion blocks.

In Music, we continued learning our Egyptian songs and even planted our own seeds, thinking carefully about which plants would thrive along the River Nile.

We also had PC Nick in school today to discuss road safety and how to keep ourselves safe when crossing the roads.

We have had lots of fun this week and can’t wait to see what next week has in store for us!

Kind regards,
Mrs Roney.
