Year 1 have had a great week full of creativity, curiosity, and challenge!
In English, we have been writing our own Grandma Bird stories. The children came up with loads of fantastic ideas and really challenged themselves to add detail, imagination, and exciting vocabulary to their writing. We were so proud of how hard everyone worked and how brave they were at trying new ideas.
At Forest School, we had a wonderful time designing and building homes for minibeasts. The children carefully thought about what materials would work best for different parts of the homes and why. We then went on a minibeast hunt to see if any creatures liked the homes we had made – lots of curiosity and great teamwork on display!
In Art, we started our final pieces inspired by Eric Carle. We have been painting tissue paper, which was quite tricky and required lots of patience and care. We can’t wait to finish our work and see the animals we create using our colourful designs.
In Computing, we had lots of fun using the Bee-Bots, programming them to move forwards and turn. The children did a great job problem-solving and debugging when things didn’t quite go to plan.
In Geography, we checked our rain gauge and measured how much rain we had this week. We also talked about the seasons and learned how the Earth tilts differently throughout the year, causing changes in weather.
In Science, we learned about animal diets. We sorted animals into carnivores, herbivores, and omnivores:
Carnivores eat meat
Herbivores eat plants
Omnivores eat both… om nom nom!
It has been a busy, exciting week and the children have shown brilliant enthusiasm and effort across all areas of learning. Well done, Year 1
