Welcome back to you all. It has been lovely to have everyone back after our snow days. I hope you have all had a wonderful Christmas break. Year 6 you have settled back into class beautifully and have worked hard.

Our two snow days brought back home learning activities and I have enjoyed seeing all your completed tasks, particularly your snow creations. Back in school, we have continued our learning. We have been:

  • simplifying fractions, finding equivalent fractions, ordering and comparing them too
  • getting to know Charles Darwin
  • learning about the sh sound using si and ssi suffixes
  • creating, drafting and editing the first part of our newspaper reports-creative in dance
  • glockenspiel players
  • learning more about Scratch
  • enjoying the atlases too.

Our new topic, Stone, Bronze and Iron Age has begun this week as we took part in our first Year 6 Forest Schools session. We looked carefully at different miniature prehistory characters and tried to place them on a timeline. We now know that there are three stages to the Stone Age and that this period in history lasted the longest. We thought about when our planet was a super continent and then spent time enjoying the book Stone Age Boy before heading off in small teams to create a shelter of our own. Forest Schools is a fantastic way to bring this period of history alive and Mr Hadfield has so many great artefacts. My class display has now been changed where more artefacts can be explored.

A week of two halves Year 6!
Have a wonderful weekend.
Mrs B.
