A Colourful Week of Learning and Laughter

What a vibrant week it's been in preschool--full of patchwork elephants, magnetic masterpieces, and joyful discoveries! The children have been busy exploring their senses, building friendships, and diving into learning through play.

Our story of the week was Elmer, and his cheerful colours inspired so much creativity. The children loved using playdough to sculpt their own Elmers, carefully pinching and shaping small pieces to build their patchwork friends--what a brilliant boost for fine motor skills! We also decorated paper Elmer pictures with colourful tissue paper and glue, chatting about patterns and celebrating how Elmer is special because he's different.

On Wednesday, we transformed into scientists! With magnets and paper clips in hand, the children painted paper plates in a wonderfully curious way--watching how the magnets moved the clips beneath the surface. It was a fantastic blend of art and investigation, sparking awe and excitement.

Our rhyme of the week was Tommy Thumb, and it tied beautifully into our "All About Me" topic. We explored our sense of touch with feely boxes and a tough tray filled with smooth, spikey, soft, and rough materials. The children were fascinated by the textures and especially enjoyed the sensory delight of painting with their fingers--making marks, handprints, and lots of giggles.

In maths, we continued our focus on positional language. Friday's toy hunt was a huge hit! The children eagerly described where they found hidden toys--under tables, on shelves, and inside boxes--showing growing confidence in using spatial vocabulary during play.

Our Heartsmart PSED lesson brought Boris the robot to life. We explored what Boris is made of and then got creative with junk modelling to build our very own Boris figures. It was a lovely way to talk about what makes us special and how we're all built with love, kindness, and courage.

Outdoors, we've been on the move! The children enjoyed riding small sit-on scooters, giving pedalling a go on our trikes and bikes, and practising their throwing and catching skills. It's been wonderful to see their coordination and confidence growing with every game.

As we wrap up this joyful week, we're already looking forward to what's next. Next week, our story will be Wow! Said the Owl, and we'll be exploring our sense of smell--sniffing, guessing, and discovering! In maths, we'll be diving into sorting activities, helping the children notice similarities and differences as they group and classify
