Exploring the World Around Us!

We've had a fantastic week in preschool, packed with exciting activities and new discoveries as we continued to explore the world around us. Here's a look at everything we've been up to:

This week, we focused on exploring how things grow. We planted seeds and learned what they need to flourish -- sunshine, soil, and water.
The children also had a great time investigating our Giant African Land Snails, observing their features and learning how to care for them.
Another highlight of the week was "worm charming," where we used water sprayers to create pretend rain to help us find some worms for the reception class's wormery.

In literacy, we began a new traditional tale, The Three Billy Goats Gruff, the children have really enjoyed joining in with the 'trip trapping'. They have also worked hard to build bridges out of small parts for the billy goats to cross the river safely.
Our rhyme of the week was Five Little Peas in a Pea Pod Pressed, which tied in beautifully with our planting theme.
Our older children also began learning the sound 'a' -- practicing how to say it, recognize it, and even write it.

Our Heartsmart lesson this week focused on truthfulness. We played a Boris game where children gave a thumbs up if a Boris fact was true and a thumbs down if it wasn't. It sparked some great conversations and encouraged the children to think carefully. Boris says "What we say should always be true and kind"

In maths, we explored early number recognition and counting through interactive games, particularly with our sandcastle-building game at the games table, which encouraged our number skills.

Physical development has been another key focus this week -- with sports day races, threading, peg boards, and name writing helping to build both fine and gross motor skills.

Outdoors, we've been very busy! Activities have included gardening, racing practice for sports day, having fun on the balance bikes. and lots of imaginative play in the mud kitchen and camping area.

Indoors, we also enjoyed a indoor roleplay ice cream shop, where the children have been choosing different flavours, serving their friends and practicing turn taking and sharing whilst playing

Looking ahead to next week, we'll be meeting The Dingle Dangle Scarecrow and enjoying the story The Very lazy Ladybird. We can't wait to keep learning and playing together!

Thank you as always for your continued support and for being part of our preschool family.
