This week in preschool, we continued exploring magical creatures with our story of the week, 'Sugarlump and the Unicorn', and our rhyme, 'Star Light, Star Bright'. The children were captivated by the magical theme and enjoyed immersing themselves in the world of unicorns and wishes.
In our sensory tray, we explored frogspawn slime, linking it to our real-life observations of our tadpoles growing and changing. This hands-on activity helped the children understand life cycles in an engaging and playful way.
For phonics, we sang some silly songs for alliteration, including Pinky Party Pig, and had fun finding words that started with the same sound as our own names.
Fine motor development was a focus this week, with the children practicing their threading skills, helping to strengthen their hand muscles and improve coordination.
In our Heartsmart session, we talked about how we use different parts of our bodies to show that we are good friends--using our ears to listen, our hands for kindness, and our hearts to show love. The children then colored, cut out, and added these body parts to their own Boris pictures, reinforcing the lesson in a creative way.
For maths, we explored 3D shapes by building with them, printing with them to see the flat shapes they are made up of, and learning some of their names.
On Tuesday we enjoyed looking through a selection of science books borrowed from The Ogden Trust. The children especially enjoyed the story of 'Pepper pig in Space"
To celebrate St. Patrick's Day, we learned some fun facts about how it is celebrated and even had a go at some Irish dancing! The children loved moving to the rhythm and trying out new dance steps.
On Friday, we visited our trim trail, where we practiced climbing and balancing, building confidence and coordination in a fun and active way.
We also explored musical repeating patterns, recognising and copying different rhythmic sequences through clapping, instruments, and movement.
Throughout the week, the children practiced buttering their own crackers and toast at snack time, building independence and fine motor skills.
We have also had lots of fun in our outdoor area using our problem solving skills to rescue concept cat from the tree!
Next week, we will be diving under the sea to explore mermaids and the importance of keeping our oceans clean. We can't wait for another exciting week of learning and adventure!
