This week in preschool, we have made the most of the winter sunshine, enjoying lots of outdoor activities. We have made a pretend camp site, 'cooking ' marshmallows and hot dogs around our camp fire and relaxed in our camping chairs. We have also had lots of exercise chasing and rolling hula hoops, blowing and popping bubbles, and practicing our football skills in the active area.
We also enjoyed exploring the frost and ice, we noticed how the frost had only melted where the winter sun was shining. We then did an experiment placing ice in the sun and the shade, we were excited to see the ice in the sun had melted into water but the ice in the shade was still frozen.
As part of Interfaith Week, we explored different stories from around the world. The Blind Men and the Elephant taught us the importance of seeing the whole picture, and the children had fun trying to guess different animals with their eyes closed. The Tiny Ants helped us understand the importance of caring for all creatures, even the smallest ones.
For Children's Mental Health Week 2025, we focused on the theme Know Yourself, Grow Yourself. We talked about the things and people we find special and how we are all special in our own ways.
Continuing with our transport theme, we read The Train Ride and sang Five Little Firefighters. The children have loved playing with the wooden train set and the Happyland fire and rescue toys.
We have also been diving deeper into The Three Little Pigs, listening to a sensory version of the story, exploring pig and wolf sounds, and feeling the differences between straw, sticks, and bricks. There was lots of excitement as we dropped the wolf into a bowl of 'soup' at the end of the story! The children have been sequencing the story, working hard to retell it in the correct order. We then worked in teams to build our own houses out of straw, sticks, and bricks for the pigs.
In maths, we focused on number 5--subitising, counting, identifying, and representing it in different ways.
Next week, we look forward to more exciting learning experiences and new adventures together!
