Year 6, you impress me every day and this week you have worked so hard. You have achieved so many things and I am very proud of you.
In Maths this week we have used our number lines to round numbers to the nearest power of ten and have gone as far as tens of millions. We have also used the determiner number to help decide which place value changes when rounding. We have now completed our Place Value unit and have moved onto addition and subtraction. Our first focus was to recap all the mental strategies we have learnt as we have journeyed through school. We have thought about using known facts, place value positions, bridging ad partitioning. Homework this week reflects our negative number and rounding learning. We have also spent time playing on TT Rock Stars to brush up on our times tables.
In English this week we have planned and written the final four paragraphs of our diary. I have modelled my plan and writing using our writer's knowledge. We have also added doodles to support our ideas. I have thoroughly enjoyed reading all the entries and can't wait to read the final paragraph. We have also focused on non-negotiable spellings and added to our class board.
We have continued in Book club this week with a WW2 focus. We have used a brilliant non-fiction DK book to explore new vocabulary and to think about skimming and scanning text. With have used these skills to answer comprehension questions and in turn to answer our anchor questions. We have also enjoyed more of our class story, Goodnight Mr Tom.
Creating a human circuit was great fun in science this week. We used pictures, definitions, and diagrams to help us match the correct electrical symbols. Once we had confidently identified each component--such as bulbs, batteries, switches, and wires--we applied our understanding by drawing our own circuit diagrams to show a series and a simple circuit.
In RE this week, we collected different Bible stories and thought about their teachings. What do these stories tell a Christian? We used different questions to help generate our answers and you came up with some brilliant reflections. Well done.
We chose different cities of interest to investigate the Blitz around the country in our history lesson this week. We thought about different enquiry questions: Why were your chosen cities targeted? What do you think Hitler was trying to do? What impact did this have on the people of the city? What a fab job you did Year 6. I have loved reading your responses.
In Music this week we learnt the dance steps of the Charleston. We really enjoyed having a go at this wartime dance and we finished our lesson practising our songs.
Today, we continued our French unit by investigating countries that sit au nord, au sud, and sur l'équateur. We used our atlases to locate each country and our French dictionaries to support our written descriptions.
We have learnt all about packets in computing this week. We now know that messages are sent over the internet using packets. We used our own packets to transmit a message around our class ensuring the correct IP addresses were used.
We have continued with our DT waistcoats this week. We have sewn our three pieces of fabric together thinking about strength and ensuring we have it the correct way around. They look just brilliant. We are now ready to add pockets and buttons.
We watched a short Andrex video clip to get us thinking about the phrase soft, strong and very long. We used these words to think about our hearts and how they can reflect this saying. We then went on to design trainers with all key words. They look very professional.
Thrive continued this week and we have also taken part in the daily mile. Coach Beth taught our second PE lesson.
We have learnt a little more about the Young Leaders project this week in our Courageous Advocacy lessons. We have seen different projects other schools have enjoyed and finished our lesson learning a song in the style of a rap.
I have set a new maths.co.uk task and of course reading and TT Rock stars are also top of the homework list. Please could you encourage your child to complete their maths tasks. They are set to consolidate learning and are useful as a recap.
We ended our week with a Wellbeing lesson whilst enjoying relaxing music. We thought about what makes us smile.
We enjoyed spending time with our buddies today. We split our four house teams into two and enjoyed either activities in the classroom or reception garden. A real treat and we wish our buddies a lovely weekend.
You have all been so busy this week and you definitely need your weekend break. I hope you have a fabulous weekend.
