As writers, we have explored our PGL experiences in many ways. Firstly as a poem. It was wonderful to capture some of our responses in this way. We wrote about conquering our fears, encouraging others, and having more often how we had a wonderful time. We have then moved on to explore an example text of a diary. We have spent time unpicking the vocabulary and looking at writer's knowledge throughout.

In Maths, we have concluded our decimals work by dividing 1 and 2 digits by 100. We completed unit 1 of decimals and have moved on to our second unit. We have learnt how to make a whole when we are presented with tenths and hundredths as decimals. We have also learnt to partition decimals in to tens, ones, tenths and hundredths.

Did you know that the River Thames is the second longest river in the U.K.? The River Thames was our focus in geography this week. We looked at three maps from the source, the middle course and the mouth of the river Thames. This, together with a useful video, helped us to see how the river changes from the source to the mouth.

Our Science lesson began by thinking about how we should stay safe with electricity, and then we moved onto testing the different components to light a bulb in an electrical circuit. We used lots of trial and error techniques to test our components and thought carefully about how to position the battery in the battery holder.

Our Heartsmart focus this week was on 'Fake is a Mistake'. We watched a video in which Boris told a lie about himself. We reminded the children that they liked Boris before he told the lie so he didn't need to pretend to be something he isn't. We played a game of two truths and a lie. We explained that whilst it is fun to pretend (like when we are playing a game), to be friends with someone it is important they know who you really are, what you really think and what you really like. Friendship is built on trust and trust only comes from telling the truth about us. Remember – Fake is a Mistake! We thought about how Boris is great as he is and so are the children! We are all unique and amazing in our own special ways. Love takes no pleasure in evil but rejoices over the truth. 1 Corinthians 13:6

In our History lesson this week, we completed our unit on Crime and Punishment. The children completed their booklets showcasing everything that had learnt about the different time periods. We also answered the question – How has crime and punishment changed over time? It was amazing to see all of our knowledge come together.

In our Art lesson this week, we completed our self-portrait sculptures. We added the final details and then took the opportunity to photograph them ready to share in our art books. The children were asked to consider how they wanted to present their sculpture and set it up themselves and take their own photograph.

We have loved sharing class worship with you this week. We have worked hard across the week to write our own script and practice ready for our performance this afternoon. We hope you enjoyed watching it as much as we enjoyed performing it. Well done Year 4!

In our PE lesson with Coach Beth this week, we enjoyed developing our athletics skills. The main focus was on two types of passes – a push throw (shot put) and a pull throw (javelin). We have a fantastic lesson in the sunshine – thank you Coach Beth!

This week's PE lesson with Mrs Whittingham has been bowling. We learnt how to grip the ball and the bowling technique where we take up a side-on position with both hands up near the 'Adam's Apple' and head looking over shoulder at wickets. The next part is called the 'coil' – children lift their front leg, rocking back to create momentum, and simultaneously draw a number 6 with the bowling arm, bringing it over straight at 12 o'clock to deliver. It took quite a bit of practice to get the technique then to ensure we threw accurately at the same time. We did this by aiming at the wickets. Finally we set up some matches where we all had a go at bowling.

In Music this week, our theme was improvisation. It was so lovely to see so many of you volunteer to improvise in front of the class. You chose to improvise with either a rhythm or a melody. You chose the lower octave to play on your glockenspiels. Amazing work Year 4!

In our RE lessons this week, we started by recapping why Peter was thought as as being the rock in which God built his church. We then went on to explore a part of the bible from Acts and considered what this meant to Christians. We reflected on what it must be like to belong to a church.

After taking lots of photos for PGL last week, I have accidentally had a break from taking photos this week so have shared some extra PGL photos. I hope you enjoy.

Maths.co.uk homework has been set for this week.

Have a wonderful bank holiday weekend.
