Our fairy tales are now all complete! We have thought really carefully about all of our writer's knowledge to showcase, including fronted adverbials, expanded noun phrases, speech and verb inflections. We have then gone on to our new unit. Mrs Chesters visited class on Wednesday to persuade us to get the happy endings back from witch. She provided us with a great example text which we can use to write our own letters. To know where to start with our letters, we read the example text which make a plea to parents to stop reading bedtime stories to their children. We explored persuasive sentences and wrote sentences using this new vocabulary. On Friday, we then needed the help of Y2. We shared stories with them and asked then how they would feel if stories never had a happy ending. We gathered quotes from their ideas. Thank you for your help Y2!
In Maths, we have concluded our work on fractions by completing various problem solving questions. We worked hard to find a fraction of an amount and applied this within multi step problems. We have also learnt about finding fractions of amount by dividing by the denominator and multiply by the number. We then went on to learn about finding the whole amount when given a fraction of an amount. In our lesson on Thursday, we competed our end of unit quiz on fractions. Today, we moved on to our first lesson of our decimal unit – we learnt about tenths as fractions. We have confidently transferred our knowledge of fractions to recognise tenths as decimals in our Maths lessons this week. We used place value grids to identify the value of each digit. We have also worked on understanding tenths as decimals.
Our reading time has focused on poetry this week. As we get to know the poems, we have explored the language and word choices chosen by the poet. We have enjoyed learning about animals who live in different habitats and those who live in cities.
Handwriting has been our focus for this week – recapping the formation of every letter.
In Wellbeing, our task this week was to think about what we do when we feel happy, sad, worried, disappointed, and angry. We shared the things we like to do when we experience these emotions and offered suggestions to what to do to others. What a great team we are!
In our hockey lesson, we worked on our skills to use a short and flat back swing when hitting the hockey ball. We enjoyed taking part in three game based activities to strengthen our skills to receive a pass on the run.
As geographers, we got to know more about rivers around the world using images, maps, and by locating the continent they are in with atlases. We were excited to see the mouth of the river Amazon labelled on a map and enjoyed using the grid references to show others a specific location.
This week, we completed our RE unit from last term. We focused on how other faiths believe in forgiveness. We looked at key statements from each religion and how these were similar and different to Christian faith. We also completed our questful map for this term.
In computing this week, we have learnt about what data is and how we ca use it to answer questions. We were given data and asked to use it to find information. We then also collected some data. Using a great video, we gathered data on what coloured cars drove along a bypass. We also considered what other forms of data are regularly gathered and discussed the census.
In heartsmart this week, we learnt about good and bad stress. Positive stress motivates us to make a change (try something new), take a risk (go on rope swing, climb to topof wall, ride a rollercoaster) or want to excel at something (win a tennis match, perform on stage). It is the feeling whenyour heart is racing because you are excited and it pushes you to have a go.Stress is negative when it consumes our thoughts, disturbs our sleep, makes us unwell and hinders our performance. The children then discussed scenarios and decided whether they showed positive or negative stress. We discussed how stress is vital, without it people would be bored, lack motivation and never do anything. The important thing isto be able to recognise the signs of distress and to know how to manage it.Using the negative stress scenarios, we discussed what advice they would give to the characters. Love does not count up wrongs that have been done.1 Corinthians 13:4-5
In our second Hockey lesson this week. We started with a game called 'Sharks' which needed us to use our knowledge of the jab tackle. Sharks used this to tackle the ball off the children dribbling in the space. We then went on to play battleships. This needed us to use control, focus and all of our skills learnt so far to successfully score. Next week we look forward to playing a game.
In History this week, we have enjoyed creating a booklet to showcase all of our knowledge of Crime and Punishment throughout History. We are very proud of them so far and look forward to finishing them next week.
Our Brass lesson was a real showcase of all of the skills we have developed throughout our lessons. We practiced our performance ready to share with you on Wednesday next week.
In French this week, we learnt how to read the story of the very greedy dog. We learnt lots of new words for food and found the story very funny to follow along with.
Art was fantastic this week. We have worked on turning our sculptures into something even more realistic. They are really taking shape now! We look forward to finishing them next week.
