What a busy week we have had Y2. We are getting in our festive spirit now the decorations are up around school.
In English this week, we found William's diary on our clue table. We could not quite believe that someone had sent us his diary. We spoke about what a diary was and that we should not actually look at other people's diaries, as they are personal. However, as William's was sent to us we thought it would be acceptable to look inside. We found a diary entry written from William about the first time he saw the topiary. We then found out that our next writing objective was to write a diary. We have spent the week immersing ourselves into William's diary whilst looking at the vocabulary and grammatical features.
In reading, you have focused on reading with fluency and accuracy. You have read aloud to me. In phonics you have continued to revisit the sounds that you know and read with fluency.
In maths, we have been looking at adding two digit numbers by two digit numbers whilst looking at other methods than the column method. You have used tens and ones, number lines and even a 100 square.
In RE, you focused on looking at the big question of 'How is the birth of Jesus celebrated?'. We started off by listing down how you celebrate Jesus' birth for example some of you go to church on Christmas Eve or have a Christmas dinner with your families. We then watched a video of a Christian boy who told us all about what he does to celebrate the birth of Jesus on the lead up to Christmas day. We found this very interesting! We then built upon this further and looked at how Christians in different countries celebrate. You found out that in Greece people throw crosses into holy rivers and if someone catches the cross then they believe they are going to be blessed for the rest of the year. We completed some lovely pieces of writing in our RE books about this.
In heartsmart, you have wrote about yourselves on a cube. You wrote about what you were good at, what your favourite thing is about yourself and what you are learning to do. These are so lovely and we thought about how being HeartSmart means loving who we are and celebrating our uniqueness. "As for you, even the hairs of your head have all been counted."Matthew 10:30
We have spent a lot of our week on DT. We started by designing our very own pouch and thinking about what we wanted to use our pouch for. You chose your colour and what design you wanted on the front. We then spent Friday using our skills of a running stitch to join two pieces of felt together. We found this very difficult and had to stay resilient whilst persevering. It was so lovely to see those that had finished quickly helping the others around them. What a beautiful class I have.
In art this week, you completed some blind drawings on some pretty leaves that you had chosen to draw. You completed one blind drawing and one drawing where you could see the leaf and you compared the difference. These were beautiful and we loved completing these with Mr Hadfield in the forest school area.
For the rest of the forest school session, you excitedly made some artwork with your handprints and the leaves you had picked up on your adventure. See our photo to see how stunning this looked. You then made your own fires and roasted your marshmallows on your fire. WOW Y2, how brave you were!
We played the glockenspiel again this week in music. We worked hard on being both player 1, and player 2. We then brought both parts together and played as a duet. This was a challenge, but one that we were happy to take on! Well done Year 2
In PE you continued to build upon your gymnastic skills.
As well as all of this we have done lots of practicing for our nativity and you have worked so hard on learning your lines, songs and your roles in the nativity. Well done!
Have a lovely weekend. Homework is to learn your nativity lines please.
See you Monday,
