What a super week we have had being wonderful writers, excellent experimenters and marvellous musicians and much more.

In English this week, you planned and wrote your very own river story. You carefully thought about who your character was, where they lived, and the different places they would visit along their river journey. You included the animals they might see, how they would use their senses to explore the river, and the problems they would encounter in each place that made them continue their journey further downstream. You even decided how your character would travel along the river. Your stories were incredibly imaginative and detailed – I was so impressed with the quality of your writing! We had a big focus on using adjectives and conjunctions, whilst also remembering those all-important full stops, capital letters, and finger spaces. Each day, you edited your paragraph to make improvements, and by the end of the week, you had written your very first circular narrative and your first full story in Year Two. What an amazing achievement!

You continued your hard work in phonics in your groups whilst learning and reviewing your sounds. You developed your reading throughout the week by reading your new book each day with fluency, accuracy and comprehension.

In maths this week, you focused on the tricky concept of non-standard partitioning to partition numbers to 100. We began with lots of practical work to help you understand. First, you recapped how to partition numbers into tens and ones using the dienes equipment. You then learnt how to exchange one ten for ten ones and move these into another part of the part-part-whole model. You spent two days completing this practical work using different resources to really build your understanding. After this, you moved on to pictorial methods, where you worked out how many tens and ones were in each picture and what number they represented. By the end of the week, you could confidently use part-part-whole models to show patterns in non-standard partitioning. You discovered that every time you gave a ten to the ones, the tens decreased, and the ones increased by 10 each time. This was a really tricky concept, but you persevered brilliantly!

In your afternoon learning you have been super busy. In RE, you focused on why the bible is so important to Christians. You understood that this was there holy book which helped them to understand what life is and how they can follow in Jesus' footsteps. You found out that the bible is very precious and that people tend to have their bible in a cover to help protect it. You looked at different bible covers and created your very own thinking about what illustrations you would put on the front. You had such beautiful and interesting ideas. In your courageous advocacy work, we followed the story of Gracie and how she became a kindness leader when a new girl joined her class. You found out that Kindness acts can be done in secret without anyone watching or knowing. In history, you looked at the history of aeroplanes and you looked at two significant people in the history of aeroplanes. You learnt about the wright brothers who invented the first glider and then you looked at Amy Johnson who was first female pilot to fly to Australia. We compared these two people and looked at how they are different and how they are similar. In heartsmart, we looked at the bible quote "Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonour others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.. 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 You looked at how all of our families are very different to each other but how our families show love to us. You created a love map thinking carefully about who you are the closest to in your family. In computing, we continued to look at information technology and how we can use different types of IT. In science, you looked carefully at how we can change different materials by twisting, squashing, stretching or bending it. You experimented this with lots of different materials and objects to see if you could change them. We thought about the materials we could change and why we could change them depending on their properties. In PE, you continued your hard work on game skills and through this we focused on running and jumping. In PE, with Coach Beth you continued your learning on running skills. Hey Friends! This was the title of this week's song. We listened to the lyrics and created a mind map as a class about words and phrases we could hear. We know that we can have many friends, not just at school, but at clubs, in this country as well as other countries. We discussed how lucky we are to have friends and how we can listen to this song to help us spread kindness. One of our challenges when singing this song was to dance in the instrumental section only. We needed a few reminders of when to sing and when to dance, but year two, you worked very hard this week. Well done!

What a wonderful week! Homework has been set for this week. I just want to say a huge thank you to so many of you for all of your engagement with your homework and reading, I am one very proud teacher and our marble jars are always looking very full at the end of each week. Keep up the hard work team as this is amazing!

Have a wonderful weekend,

Miss Haynes
