On Wednesday, we had our Nantwich museum trip so that we could immerse ourselves into our topic of the Great fire of Nantwich.

We started our day by excitedly getting onto the coach with our partners! Once, we arrived at Nantwich museum we were greeted by the lovely ladies that worked there. We started our trip by looking at a huge handmade timeline. On the top half it showed all of the history events in the country and the bottom half were all of the history events that happened in Nantwich. We spotted when the Great Fire of Nantwich happened and we looked at how Queen Elizabeth was on the throne at the time. We spent some time listening to the ladies talk about the Tudor times and what Nantwich would have looked like.

We were then put in groups. One group went out in to Nantwich for a tour of Tudor Nantwich, you had to be history detectives and use all five of your senses as you walked around. You started off at the cocoa yard where you found out that the huge chimney was used to melt horse shoes. You then went onto London road where you found out that this was a road that connected Chester and London together and was used a lot in the past by royalty. You found out that because it took a lot of time to get to these two places Nantwich was an important place for the people to stop and rest in an inn. We carried on our tour by looking at all of the different inns. We found out that straight beams on a Tudor house mean that it is a poor person's house or an inn and the patterned beams are for a rich person's house or a very important inn. You spotted where the bear inn was and even where St Mary's church was. Did you know that it has dark patches on the sandstone brick from the fire?

The other group stayed in the museum and looked at more Tudor artefacts. You had the opportunity to dress up in Tudor outfits and play with different toys from the past. You even wrote your name in Tudor handwriting with ink. You then acted out the story of the Great Fire of Nantwich and thought about how the people got the water from the river to the houses. You found out that they had to stand in one big line and pass the bucket up. You also looked at the very first fire engine that was built after the Great Fire of Nantwich, you all had a go at pumping the water!

At lunch time you had the opportunity to go to the shop which was very exciting for you all!

In the afternoon you swapped groups and towards the end you created some Tudor house artwork which you were very good at.

I hope you all enjoyed your trip! I was amazed by your positive behaviour and politeness. You all behaved so well and this was commented by the people at the museum too. You did Wybunbury Delves proud! I just want to say a huge thank you to Miss Holland and Mrs Mellor for giving up their own time/jobs and joining us on our trip. We couldn't have gone without them and we appreciate their help so much!
