Happy Friday Team!
In English, we have been creating our own versions of Where the Wild Things Are. We designed our own Wild Things and used adjectives to describe them. Using our knowledge of the story, we planned our Octopus Opening and chose what our rooms would transform into. After writing and editing our openings, we are excited to see how our Build-Up Bear develops!
In Math, we have been exploring numbers up to 50. We have been learning to identify the ones and tens in each number and practicing counting in tens and ones. We have also worked on finding one more and one less, helping us build a strong understanding of number patterns!
In RE this week, we recalled the Easter Story and discussed the events of Holy Week, focusing on three important days. We explored how the women in the story decorated the tomb and worked together to create our own Easter gardens. We carefully placed cloth in our tombs and talked about the meaning behind each item we included. Finally, we shared our thoughts on what we believed was the most important part of the Easter story.
In Geography, we finished making our rain gauges and decided on the best places to put them, ensuring they were not covered so they could collect rain properly. We also discussed the different types of weather we had observed throughout the week, thinking about how it might affect our measurements.
In our Heartsmart lesson, we talked about different feelings and used chalk to draw faces showing emotions after listening to various scenarios. We discussed ways to help someone feel better if they are sad or worried, such as giving them a hug to make them smile. We also reflected on the Bible quote: "Love does not count up wrongs that have been done." – Corinthians 13:4-5.
In PE, we continued learning about striking and fielding. We started with a game of Domes and Dishes, working as a team and staying active to win. We then practiced underarm throwing, working in pairs to aim for a hoop. In our dance lessons, we used words from a poem to create short dance sequences, incorporating mirroring to enhance our movements.
In music, we used bells as percussion instruments to improvise along with the piece Cuckoo, a waltz with beats in groups of three. We clapped rhythms and played our instruments, trying to stay in time with the music. We then learned about stick notation, using phrases like "jelly on a plate" and "lollipop" to help us understand rhythms. Clapping first made it easier before playing on our bells. Everyone was very sensible, placing their bells on the floor when not in use.
In Science this week, we completed our unit with an end-of-unit check. We explored different types of animals, their diets, and labeled human body parts while discussing our senses. Everyone was super grown-up and gave the questions their best effort. Afterward, we were excited to look through science books provided by the Ogdan Trust. We took them outside and loved exploring different areas of science through the books!
In Computing this week, we focused on grouping data. We practiced sorting objects into groups and counting how many groups we had. We learned how to classify objects and understood that items that look different but are the same can still be grouped together. This helped us see how data can be organized in different ways, even if the items appear different at first glance.
In Computing, we explored the different properties of objects and discussed how things can have more than one property, but we decide on the main one to group them. We went on a hunt for blue objects and then grouped various items, explaining the labels we chose for each group. It was fun sorting and thinking about different ways to classify objects!
We ended our week with our class worship about courageous advocacy. Everyone was amazing, speaking their lines clearly and singing beautifully. It was a wonderful celebration, and everyone should be super proud of what they achieved!
I hope everyone has a great weekend!
