Reception Class, we have had another great week of fun, laughter and learning.
Let us share a little snapshot of some of our learning...

Expressive Arts and Design: This week, we combined our love for music with our well-being by thinking about our favourite songs. To start the session, we recapped what we have learnt so far this half term. We know how to keep the beat to different songs by clapping, marching, and more. We've also learned that some songs are fast and others are slow, with the beat changing depending on the speed of the song. We have discovered many different instruments and can now recognize them in the music we listen to! We talked about how doing actions to a song helps us remember the words, which we practiced with our action songs. To finish, we each chose one of our favourite songs, some were nursery rhymes and others from our worships.
Singing these together was lots of fun!

Personal, Social and Emotional Development: This week, our well-being focus was on our favourite things. We started by thinking about what it means if something is your favourite. We decided that it means you like something a lot because it is special to you. We also discussed how we carefully look after these items. Some of our favourite things were special teddies, jewellery, toys from birthdays, and even a Paw Patrol camera that could take memory photos! For our well-being activity, we looked back at the different things we've done this term and chose our favourite activity to complete again at the end of the session.

In Heartsmart, we learned about kindness. Being HeartSmart means looking after our hearts and caring for others too. We discussed ways to show kindness through our words and actions, like saying nice things or helping people. We revisited the part of Boris's story where he listened to the kind words of Josh and Amber, which filled his heart with love. To reinforce our learning, we looked for acts of kindness throughout the day and wrote them on hearts, which we then hung on a string in our classroom. Boris says, "When we are kind to others, it makes our hearts feel happy too."
We felt a sense of responsibility and joy as we did this activity.
"Love one another." John 13:34.

Mathematical Development: Building on last week's learning, we explored comparing groups of non-identical objects. We learned to identify which groups had more, fewer, or the same number of items. Using cubes to represent these groups helped us understand that objects don't need to be identical to compare quantities. This was a big learning moment!

Physical Development: We had a lovely afternoon on Thursday with Coach Gabriel, continuing to develop our movement and coordination skills.

Literacy Development: What super writers we are, Reception Class! This week, we planned and wrote the problem penguin and elephant ending of the story Dan and the Ball. We practiced using capital letters, finger spaces, neat letter formation, and finished with full stops. Singing the story song helped us remember the important elements and words from the story, making our writing even better!

Understanding the World: This week, we completed our Questful RE maps to document our journey of learning and discovery about why we are all special and unique.

Reception Class, you are shining your lights so brightly in all you do.
Have a restful weekend and I look forward to our last week of term where we will learn all about Patch the Pumpkin and his hero friends, shining God's light and love into the world.
